I’m working with a bride to plan her big day. She envisions an afternoon and evening of music broken into sections, each with it’s distinctive “feel.”

Garden Party
The festivities would begin with a two-hour garden party with music by a trio consisting of piano, percussion (hand percussion, cajon, etc.), and double bass. For this portion we’d play jazz and pop favorites.

Fever — Peggy Lee
Dance Me To The End Of Love – Leonard Cohen
Brown Eyed Girl — Van Morrison
Black Magic Woman — Fleetwood Mac/Carlos Santana
Black Hole Sun — Soundgarden
God Bless The Child – Standard
Have You Met Miss Jones – Standard
It Don’t Mean A Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing) – Standard
Deed I Do – Standard
Bernie’s Tune – Standard
Gravy Waltz – Standard
Night And Day – Standard
Hey Jude — The Beatles
Fly Me To The Moon – Frank Sinatra

Is This Love That I’m Feeling? — Bob Marley
All The Things You Are – Standard
Ain’t No Sunshine — Bill Withers
Georgia – Ray Charles
Mery, Mercy, Mercy – Cannonball Adderly

Wedding Ceremony
The garden party would be followed by the wedding ceremony. Here the percussionist would take a break leaving the piano and bass to play some appropriate classical and non-classical favorites.

What A Wonderful World – Louis Armstrong
Cannon In D – Johann Pachelbel
Is This Love – Bob Marley
When I Fall In Love – Nat King Cole

Marry Me – Train
(I Can’t Help) Falling In Love With You – UB40
For Once In My Life – Stevie Wonder

The ceremony would be followed by the cocktail hour. As this will be the most inergetic hour of the evening, a tenor player will join us, and the drummer will set up an entire kit.

Benny And The Jets — Elton John
Bad Moon Rising — Creedence Clearwater Revival
The “In” Crowd — Dobie Gray
Stand By Me — Ben E. King
Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This) — Eurythmics
Unchain My Heart — Joe Cocker
Tequila — The Champs

Shower Your People — James Taylor
Just The Way You Are — Billy Joel
You Are The Sunshine Of My Life — Stevie Wonder
Mustang Sally — Wilson Pickett
I Got You (I Feel Good) — James Brown

For dinner we’ll keep the whole group: piano, sax, bass, and drums. But we’ll switch to gentler, jazz tunes. (The drummer will play with brushes.)

You Send Me — Sam Cooke
Your Song — Elton John
You Are So Beautiful — Joe Cocker
‘Til There Was You — The Beatles
Time After Time – Standard
Someday My Prince Will Come – Standard
The Nearness Of You – Standard
Bye, Bye, Blackbird – Standard
Crazy — Patsy Cline
La Vie En Rose — Edith Piaf
Moondance — Van Morrison
You Are So Beautiful – Van Morrison
My One And Only Love – Standard
She’s Got A Way — Billy Joel
My Funny Valentine – Standard
Over The Rainbow – Standard
Have I Told You Lately – Van Morrison
Moon River – Henry Mancini
At Last – Etta James
Bewitched – Standard
This Masquerade — Leon Russell
Yesterday — The Beatles
Someone To Watch Over Me – Standard

After all of this the DJ takes over, and we go home!
