January Jazz Newsletter
January is for family, planning the new year, and recovering from the old one. I’ll admit it. December was one of the most difficult months I’ve ever had. I’m certainly grateful for all of the holiday gigs, for the Christmas concert at the Barns of Rose Hill, for being able to lead our Advent celebrations at church. Everything in the month was good—it was just too much. Naturally, I’m thinking about what I’m going to say “yes” to next year—but more immediately, I’m just appreciating the slower pace.
The obvious difference between December and January is my attendance at jazz night at Travinia. In December I made it out one day. (Many thanks to Aaron Campbell, Mark Andrew Cook, Keith Salley, and Bob Larson for covering all of the December dates I couldn’t do.) Now, in January, the reverse is true—I’ll only miss one day.
In addition to my dates at Travinia, I’ll be at Lansdowne Resort (11th), Il Porto (16th), Lightfoot (17th & 31st).
Happy New Year—see you on at the gig.
One more thing: I’ll be performing at Tracy Hamlin’s Sweet Jazz Festival on April 12th at the Washington Dulles Airport Mariott. Mark your calendars and get your tickets now.
